Recapping Week 7

#1 Torrey Pines survived a tough road test at Carlsbad. The Falcons jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead and held a 28-14 4th quarter lead before surrendering back-to-back Lancer Touchdowns, the latter coming with just over two minutes to play. The Falcons scored on 3rd and goal in the first overtime period and batted away a 4th down attempt by Carlsbad to move along in Avocado League Play.

#2 Cathedral Catholic got off to a quick start against Madison in what was expected to be a close fought league game. Any chance of that was shot down when the Dons jumped out to a 35-0 halftime lead and coasted to a 49-7 victory.

#3 Helix traveled to El Capitan and quickly did what was expected, rolling along to a 41-7 victory. The Highlanders will have to stay in top form if they hope to make an Open Division run this season.

#4 La Costa Canyon traveled on the road and couldn’t get the offense flowing with the loss of running back Karson Lippert for the season. San Marcos had their defense ready to play and emerged with a 12-8 win in the always competitive Avocado League.

#5 Eastlake – BYE

#6 San Marcos

#7 St. Augustine hosted Lincoln and struggled offensively for much of the game. The Hornets only trailed 12-6 when they entered the 4th quarter, before the Saints exploded for 22 points en route to a 34-13 final. Might they have been looking ahead to this week’s Holy Bowl?

#8 Madison

#9 Granite Hills had run the table through six weeks, but hadn’t faced a ton of competition. They’ve answered enough questions now to cement their spot in the Top 10 poll. The Eagles scored 24 2nd half points on the road at Steele Canyon that saw them head home with a 30-27 victory.

#10 Carlsbad
