San Diegans in 2017 MiLB All-Star Games

(AAA)–

Tom Eshelman – RHP – Carlsbad HS/Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs (Philadelphia). Eshelman, a 2nd round pick of the Astros in 2015, possesses some of the best control of any pitcher in the minor leagues. He posted excellent numbers in 11 starts since being promoted to AAA. 7-2, 1.96 era, 78 innings. The AAA All-Star game will be played in Tacoma, WA in July 12th.

(AA)–

Garrett Stubbs – C – Torrey Pines HS/Corpus Christi Hooks (Houston). Stubbs, who won the Johnny Bench Award (Top Collegiate Catcher) during his senior season at USC, made his 2nd All-Star game in his second full minor league season. During the game he hit a 3-run triple and was hit by a pitch in 5 innings of work. Since the start of the 2016 season, Stubbs has hit 14 home runs to go along with his highly-acclaimed defense. He came into the season ranked as the Astros 10th best prospect by ESPN.com.

Cade Gotta – OF – Santa Fe Christian HS/Montgomery Biscuits (Tampa Bay). Gotta, who was a 26th round selection out of San Diego Christian College in 2014, has quickly made his way through the Rays system. Gotta was hitting .311/.390/.475 for the Biscuits before he was promoted to AAA in late June. Unfortunately for the Southern League, their All-Star game was rained out back in June.

Corey Oswalt – RHP – Madison HS/Binghamton Rumble Ponies (New York Mets). Oswalt, a 7th round pick of the Mets in 2012, has put together his strongest professional season so far. He’s posted a 2.45 era in 69.2 innings with 57 k’s. The Eastern League All-Star game will take place on July 12th.

(A+)–

Alex Jackson – C – Rancho Bernardo HS/Florida Fire Frogs (Atlanta). The former Bronco and one of the best power hitters in San Diego history got a fresh start this season after being traded from Seattle to Atlanta. Jackson, who signed with the Mariners for $4.2 Million in 2014, had been playing in the outfield with Seattle but has moved back behind the plate with Atlanta. Jackson had been hitting .301/.359/.575 with 10 home runs before going down with a hand injury that caused him to miss the Florida State League All-Star Game.

Cody Poteet – RHP – Christian HS/Jupiter Hammerheads (Florida). The former 4th round pick out of UCLA was off to a nice start this season with a 2.53 era in 42.2 innings, before an injury shut him down in the end of May that caused him to miss the FSL All-Star Game. Poteet has since come back and is making rehab appearances for the GCL Marlins.
