After Westview’s fumble, Kion Gould caught a pass in the back of the end zone to crawl Mt Carmel back into the game. Minutes before halftime, offensive lineman Carter Couch scored on a trick screen play to give Mt. Carmel a 21-13 lead going into the break.

Quarterback Lucas Johnson used his legs to give the Sundevils a 28-13 early in the 3rd quarter. Beau Nelson continued the trend and scampered into the end zone for a Wolverines’ touchdown. Westview was held to a field goal on their next possession to inch back into the game, trailing 28-22. The Wolverines got the ball back with over a minute left but Dylan Hunt intercepted Beau Nelson’s pass to seal the victory for the Mt. Carmel Sundevils.

Mt. Carmel received the 4 seed and a first round bye in the Division 2 playoffs, while Westview grabbed the 5 seed and will travel to the 12th seeded San Pasqual Eagles. The winner of the Westview/San Pasqual game will take on Mt. Carmel on the road.
