  • 2019 Carlsbad OL Carlos Harrison committed to Wyoming.
  • 2019 Point Loma DB JL Skinner committed to Boise State.
  • 2019 La Costa Canyon OL Luka Trifunovic committed to Northwestern as a preferred walk-on.
  • 2019 San Marcos DE Quinn Roff picked up an offer from Southern Utah and a preferred walk-on offer from Washington State.
  • 2019 Santa Fe Christian OL Carson Drake picked up an offer from Navy.
  • 2019 Cathedral Catholic WR Zion Sorani picked up an offer from Washington State.
  • 2019 San Diego DB Jayden Wickware picked up an offer from Princeton.

  • Patrick Henry announced former NFL QB JT O’Sullivan as their new Head Football Coach.

12/10-12/16 Week in Review

Recruiting:

  • 2019 Bishop’s F Christian Rose committed to Northwest Nazarene University.
  • 2019 La Jolla Country Day C Jayson Taylor committed to Tufts University.
  • 2019 San Marcos DE Quinn Roff picked up an offer from Stetson University.
  • 2019 San Diego DB Jayden Wickware picked up an offer from Weber State.
  • 2019 San Diego ATH Raiden Hunter picked up an offer from Idaho State.
  • 2019 Westview LHP Brycen Mautz committed to USD.

Basketball:

  • I sat down with 2019 Mission Bay PG Boogie Ellis, who recently signed with Duke, in Episode 5 of the SDPI In-depth podcast.

Football:

  • 4 San Diego Section Teams were able to make it to CIF State Championship games, but only San Diego HS was able to return home with a victory. They traveled to Colfax, and won 21-10.

Alumni:

  • ’12 Mater Dei Catholic grad Nico Siragusa, who was a 1st Team All-American at San Diego State, was signed to the active roster with the Green Bay Packers. He previously was on the Ravens Practice Squad.
  • ’13 Lincoln grad Tyree Robinson, who had a productive 4 year career at Oregon, was signed to the active roster with the San Francisco 49ers.

12/3-12/9 Week in Review

Recruiting:

  • 2020 St. Augustine F Chibuzo Agbo picked up an offer from Grand Canyon University after they evaluated him on Monday night.

Football:

  • Monte Vista‘s Jahmon McClendon, a UCLA commit, was awarded the annual Silver Pigskin Award from KUSI.

Basketball:

  • Rancho Buena Vista defeated Westview 66-60, to win the annual Hilltop Tournament.
  • St. Augustine will play Torrey Pines on Monday for the North County Classic Championship. The game will be at San Marcos HS at 7:30pm.
  • Brackets and Schedules were released for the 2018 Torrey Pines Holiday Classic. HERE!

Alumni:

  • 2014 Helix grad Jalen Davis, who was an All-American CB at Utah State, was promoted to the active roster with the Miami Dolphins.
  • 2009 Santa Fe Christian grad Brock Miller, a former punter at Southern Utah, was signed to the New York Giants practice squad.
  • Stanford punter Jake Bailey, a 2015 Santa Fe Christian grad, was invited to the Reese’s Senior Bowl.
  • Garrett Stubbs (’11 Torrey Pines/Houston Astros), Alex Jackson (’14 Rancho Bernardo/Atlanta Braves), and Ian Clarkin (’13 Madison/Chicago White Sox) were all added to their team’s 40-man rosters, protecting them from the Rule 5 Draft.

Recruiting:

  • 2019 Madison RB Kenan Christon, a USC commit, took his official visit to USC.
  • 2020 San Marcos SS Luca Martinez committed to Washington State.

Football:

  • The 2018 All-CIF Football Teams were announced.

  • Devin Brown of Morse HS was named the So Cal Defensive Player of the Week after a huge performance in the Title Game.

  • 4 of the 6 Section Champions from San Diego won their regional bowl games. Cathedral Catholic, Lincoln, San Diego, and Orange Glen have advanced to State Championship Games two weekends from now.
    • Cathedral and Lincoln will have to wait a week to find out their opponents.
    • The Cavers will enjoy a very long bus ride as they take on Colfax HS, located northeast of Sacramento.
    • The Patriots will also head north for a long trip to take on Lincoln HS of San Francisco. That game will be played at George Washington HS, which features one of the best backdrops in the country (below).
