2/19-2/25 Week in Review

Recruiting:

  • 2019 Helix LB Michael Shawcroft picked up his first three offers, from Utah State, Army, and San Diego State.
  • 2019 Brawley LB Casey Kline picked up an offer from Boise State, and took an unofficial visit to Arizona State.
  • 2020 Cathedral Catholic QB DJ Ralph took an unofficial visit to Arizona State.
  • 2019 Madison RB Kenan Christon picked up an offer from Nebraska.

Football:

  • St. Augustine has officially hired Joe Kremer as their new head football coach. Kremer previously served as the Defensive Coordinator.

Baseball:

  • With the baseball season starting later this week, Cal-Hi Sports put out their preseason Top 25 Teams in California. They have Eastlake at #1, Cathedral at #5, La Costa Canyon at #12. Torrey Pines, San Marcos, and Rancho Bernardo are just outside the 25.

Alumni:

  • Former Scripps Ranch/University of Michigan QB Tate Forcier has been hired as the Passing Game Coordinator/QB Coach at University City HS.
  • Former Santa Fe Christian 1B Dillon Paulson crushed his first home run of the season for USC.

2/12-2/18 Week in Review

  • The North County Conference has realigned their leagues in several sports for next season.

Recruiting:

  • Utah offered 2019 Madison RB Kenan Christon.

Basketball:

  • The Boys Basketball Playoff Brackets were announced on Saturday.

Football:

  • El Camino has named Michael Hobbs as their new head football coach. Hobbs took over as the Interim Coach during the season and led the Wildcats to the Division 1 Championship.

Alumni:

  • Former Mar Vista RHP Esteban Loaiza, who played 14 years in the MLB, was arrested this past week. More HERE–
  • Former Morse OF Quintin Berry signed with the Milwaukee Brewers.

2/5-2/11 Week in Review

Recruiting:

  • The second of two National Signing Days in Football was this past Wednesday. Dixie State University hit San Diego aggressively, signing nine current or former San Diego players.
  • 2018 Helix DB Isaac Taylor-Stuart committed to and signed with USC.
  • USC offered 2019 Madison RB Kenan Christon.
  • 2018 Point Loma DB Malik Moore committed to and signed with BYU.
  • 2018 El Camino LB Rocky Katoanga committed to and signed with Washington State.
  • Boise State offered 2019 Point Loma ATH JL Skinner.

Basketball:

  • Rancho Buena Vista pulled off the upset of the season to-date last weekend as ’20 SG Jack Bailey hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to take down #4 San Marcos.

Alumni:

  • Five former San Diego Football standouts were invited to the 2018 NFL Combine in Indianapolis.

Recruiting:

  • 2018 Helix DB Isaac Taylor-Stuart took an official visit to Tennessee this weekend, and hosted USC for an in-home visit. His final four schools include, USC, Alabama, Tennessee, and Texas A&M.
  • 2018 Lincoln RB Kenyon Sims committed to Illinois after officially visiting last weekend. San Diego State had offered earlier in the week.
  • 2018 Steele Canyon DL Mikel Oliver decommitted from San Diego State.
  • 2019 Carlsbad ATH Jacob Turner picked up an offer from Boise State.
  • 2018 Grossmont WR Josh Moala committed to USD.
  • Former Torrey Pines/Southwestern College DE Steven Mason committed to UCLA.
  • 2019 La Jolla Country Day SG Ryan Langborg picked up an offer from Yale.
  • 2018 San Marcos ATH Ethan Cline committed to Western State Colorado University.
  • 2018 La Costa Canyon QB Jake Neufeld committed to Azusa Pacific University.
  • 2019 University City WR Casey Granfors picked up his first offer, from Yale.

Football:

  • I caught up with 2018 Mission Hills/Ohio State WR commit Chris Olave earlier this week.

Basketball:

  • Foothills Christian maintained their top ranking in the Union Tribune Media Poll–

Alumni:

  • Former Granite Hills LS Joe Cardona played in his 2nd consecutive Super Bowl with the New England Patriots, but lost to the Eagles, 41-33.
  • Former Helix QB Alex Smith was traded to the Washington Redskins, and signed a contract worth 4 years and $94 million ($71 million guaranteed).
