CIF State Regional Bowl Preview

Division 1-AA

Narbonne (14-0) at Cathedral Catholic (13-0)

Friday, Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m.

The Dons appear to have their best squad since the 2008 campaign that featured running back Tyler Gaffney, and won a CIF State Title. Coming off their first Open Division Championship, they’ve outscored their opponents by 359 points this season and have only won three games by single digits. Tate Haynes leads a powerful offense that features several options on the ground of through the air. Jordan Genmark-Heath sets the tone for a stingy defense.

The Gauchos are led by junior quarterback Jalen Chatman, who has accounted for 45 touchdowns through the air this season. He’s got two thousand-yard receivers in seniors Stephon Robinson and Tre Walker, who have accounted for 27 touchdowns between themselves. Senior Kameron Denmark is averaging eight yards per carry with fourteen touchdowns. The linebacker corps includes Junior Raymond Scott, a USC commit, as well as Anthony Pandy and Dominic Peterson. Bo Tufele leads the defensive line on a team that has 53.5 sacks on the season. The Gauchos were rolling through the competition in the regular season before being tested in the playoffs including an eight-point victory over Dorsey in the CIF Title Game.

Division 2-AA

Calabasas (14-0) at Madison (11-2)

Friday, Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m

Madison made a dramatic comeback effort in the CIF-SDS D1 Title game against St. Augustine. Down 31-7 at halftime, the Warhawks scored 28 unanswered points in the 2nd half capped off by a Terrell Carter in the last minute of the game. A talented group of linebackers is led by Oregon-commit Sampson Niu and includes Bryson Collins and Chris Fatilua. Air Force-commit Brandon Lewis and running back Erick Buchanan had huge seasons that led to All-CIF selections.

The Coyotes are led by former Tennessee Quarterback Casey Clausen in his third season. Their explosive offense gets started with Nebraska commit Tristan Gebbia. I doubt you will find a better receiving corp in the country than the one deployed by the Coyotes this season. Elite recruit Darnay Holmes is the top guy followed closely by Keyshawn Johnson Jr., also a Nebraska commit, and junior Brendan Radley-Hiles.
