Updating Basketball Recruiting in San Diego

Basketball in San Diego looks to be back on the upswing after the quality of play dropped for a couple years.

2014 St. Augustine HS shooting guard Trey Kell looks to lead the pack at this point. He’s got well over 20 scholarship offers from the likes of USC, Oregon, Gonzaga, Virginia, Boston College, and San Diego State. He’ll narrow down his list after the July recruiting period and take some visits before making a decision.

2014 Army-Navy Academy point guard Devin Watson has collected offers from Oregon State, San Diego, UC-Riverside, Northern Arizona, and UTEP. He’ll look for a big senior season after the Warriors lost Oregon State bound center Cheikh Ndiaye to graduation

Hoover point guard Miles Nolen-Webb committed to UC-Riverside. He had a big junior season for the Cardinal who won the D2 championship and return the bulk of their scoring for this upcoming season.

Francis Parker’s Evan Fitzner, a sharp-shooting power forward standing 6’9″, has picked up offers from several Pac-12 and WCC schools over the past few seasons and appears to be close to ending his recruitment sometime before the November signing period.

La Costa Canyon’s Tommy McCarthy, a 2015 point guard, picked up his first offer from San Francisco following his performance at their elite camp in early July. He has lots of interest from other west coast schools as well as the majority of the Ivy League.

Travis Fuller, a 2015 power forward from La Costa Canyon and teammate of McCarthy, picked up his first offer on Monday night from San Francisco. Fuller didn’t play much as a sophomore but will look to have a breakout junior year as a probable starter.

TJ Leaf is a big time talent. If you didn’t see him during his freshman season in which he averaged 23 points per game, you need to check him out this season. The 6’8″ forward from Foothills Christian HS has picked up offers from UCLA, San Diego State, Portland, and San Diego with many more on the way soon.

Johnny McWilliams, a 2016 guard from San Marcos HS, and a club teammate of Leaf’s picked up his first offer from UNC-Charlotte after his performance at the Adidas Invitation in Indianapolis while playing for the Compton Magic. He had a big freshman season and will look to improve on it this year.

Justin Moore, a 2016 point guard, wasn’t able to play during his freshman season at Mission Bay HS, but that didn’t stop the University of San Diego from offering him a scholarship. The talented guard has interest from schools across the country and is definitely one to keep an eye on.
