Grizzlies Ground the Eagles…

Mission Hills took down San Pasqual in the San Diego Section D1 semi-finals on Friday night. San Paqual went up 3-0, before Mission Hills scored 14 unanswered points and took a 28-10 halftime lead behind 3 TD passes from junior Connor Wynn. I talked with Connor’s brother, Jordan, a former quarterback at Oceanside HS and Utah, about his new job at halftime. The Grizzlies added two more scores in the 4th quarter to win 42-17. Following the game I spoke with Connor about gameplan, recruiting and what he learns from his brother.

(10) Torrey Pines traveled to (7) Escondido on Friday night and dismantled the Cougars on the ground and through the air. They’ll travel to Eastlake to take on the (2) Titans next friday night in the D1 Qaurterfinals. I talked to Falcons Sophomore WR Jack Bailey after the game.

Coaches from both teams that have served in the Armed Forces joined the captains for the Coin Toss.

San Diego Section Football Predictions

CIF Football Playoff Predictions—

Division 1:

Round 1-

(8) Otay Ranch d. (9) Carlsbad

(5) El Camino d. (12) Patrick Henry

(11) Rancho Buena Vista d. (6) Chula Vista

(10) Torrey Pines d. (7) Escondido

Round 2-

(1) Mission Hills d. (8) Otay Ranch

(5) El Camino d. (4) San Pasqual

(3) Grossmont d. (11) Rancho Buena Vista

(2) Eastlake d. (10) Torrey Pines

Semi Finals-

(1) Mission Hills d. (5) El Camino

(2) Eastlake d. (3) Grossmont

Finals-

(1) Mission Hills d. (2) Eastlake

Wrap up: Mission Hills is at the top of the division 1 playoffs. Besides two first round upsets and a 5 seed taking down a 4, I don’t see anything-major happening in D1. Mission Hills is to loaded at skill positions and shouldn’t have much trouble lifting the trophy in a couple weeks over #2 seed Eastlake.

Division 2:

Round 1-

(9) Hilltop d. (8) Orange Glen

(5) Valhalla d. (12) Rancho Bernardo

(6) Westview d. (11) Bonita Vista

(7) Steele Canyon d. (10) San Marcos

Round 2-

(1) Oceanside d. (9) Hilltop

(4) La Costa Canyon d. (5) Valhalla

(3) Poway d. (6) Westview

(2) Helix d. (7) Steele Canyon

Semi Finals-

(1) Oceanside d.  (2) La Costa Canyon

(3) Poway d. (2) Helix

Finals-

(1) Oceanside d. (3) Poway

Wrap up: I think Hilltop will edge Orange Glen in a matchup between two very even teams. Other than that, I think Poway is peaking at the right time and will head south and win at Helix. Oceanside should win  in a rematch of their early season game against Poway. The Pirates are the best team in San Diego and its not really close at this point. Expect them to be selected for a California State Bowl Game.

Division 3:

Round 1-

(9) Mt. Carmel d. (8) Morse

(5) Point Loma d. (12) University City

(6) West Hills d. (11) Hoover

(7) Serra d. (10) Monte Vista

Round 2-

(1) Olympian d. (9) Mt. Carmel

(4) Lincoln d. (5) Point Loma

(3) Ramona d. (6) West Hills

(2) Cathedral Catholic d. (7) Serra

Semi Finals-

(4) Lincoln d. (1) Olympian

(2) Cathedral Catholic d. (3) Ramona

Finals-

(2) Cathedral Catholic d. (4) Lincoln

Wrap Up: A little bit of a shakeup is my guess in the division 3 bracket. I think that Lincoln should’ve been the #3 seed in this bracket, but it looks like it could help them make a run. I think that the Hornets will take down Olympian and make a trip to the city title. Cathedral played the 2nd toughest schedule in the county, losing only twice. This should help them in the playoffs, as I have the Dons winning the division 3 title, taking down Lincoln in a rematch of a midseason game in which the Dons held on to win 29-21, surviving a late surge from the Hornets.

Division 4:

Round 1-

(8) Del Norte d. (9) Mission Bay

(5) Mar Vista d. (12) Clairemont

(6) Imperial d. (11) La Jolla

(10) Mater Dei d. (7) Mt. Miguel

Round 2-

(1) St. Augustine d. (8) Del Norte

(4) Valley Center d. (5) Mar Vista

(3) Brawley d. (6) Imperial

(2) Madison d. (10) Mater Dei

Semi Finals-

(1) St. Augustine d. (4) Valley Center

(2) Madison d. (3) Brawley

Finals-

(1) St. Augustine d. (2) Madison

Wrap Up: Not many surprises in division 4. The top 2 seeds, St. Augustine and Madison will make it to the finals, but I see the Saints defense bottling up the Warhawks high powered offense, led by Arizona commits Pierre Cormier and Lee Walker, to take the division 4 crown.

Division 5:

Round 1-

(9) Tri City Christian d. (8) Mountain Empire

(5) La Jolla Country Day d. (12) Calvary Christian

(6) Army-Navy d. (11) Calipatria

(7) Bishops d. (10) Holtville

Round 2-

(1) Santa Fe Christian d. (9) Tri City Christian

(4) Horizon d. (5) La Jolla Country Day

(3) Christian d. (6) Army-Navy

(2) Francis Parker d. (7) Bishops

Semi Finals-

(1) Santa Fe Christian d. (4) Horizon

(2) Francis Parker d. (3) Christian

Finals-

(1) Santa Fe Christian d. (2) Francis Parker

Wrap Up: Santa Fe Christian is the class of Division 5. They’ve beaten many of the top seeded teams in D5 including Francis Parker, who I have them taking down to win the division 5 title this season.

Torrey Pines shocks La Costa Canyon, 24-17 to end streak.
